Fishers

The River Nith flows past our front door and we can arrange fishing packages on some of the river’s finest stretches through our partners in the area.

Cyclists

Kirkpatrick Macmillan, inventor of the bicycle was born at Keir (five miles) and the KM Trail runs between Dumfries and Drumlanrig Castle. There are other designated road cycling routes in the area and of course a huge network of country roads all around.

Mountain Bikers

The famous 7 Stanes Mabie Forest with its selection of trails and loops for beginners to experts is within a 30-minute drive. Bikes can be hired there. The Ae Valley Route is just a few miles away and is ideal for beginners. Lovely viewpoints, picnic areas, rivers and rocks feature along the way. Also nearby is Drumlanrig Castle where various trails have been created to challenge all levels.

Golfers

Several parkland courses are within a few miles with the championship links of Southerness (22 miles) being a little farther afield along the scenic Solway Coast route. We can help facilitate tee times for guests.

Robert Burns

Dumfries has many connections with the poet where he spent his final days. He farmed at Ellisland about three miles away and regularly visited the nearby Friars Carse.

Walkers

With county trails and roads all around there is no shortage of enjoyable walks. Notable is the walks from Drumlanrig to Burnmouth, a distance of around 12 miles that will take four hours. more strenuous is to the Striding Arches that were created by local artist Andy Goldsworthy, which starts at Cairnhead Forest.
